After reading 銆奀RITICAL DIGITAL PEDAGOGY: A DEFINITION銆媤rited by Sean Michael Morris and Jesse Stommel, I totally agree with the current educational environment described by the author. Nowadays education is oppressed by politics, prejudice, capital, society and so on. The meaning of education lies in the dissemination of knowledge and the learning of independent thinking, namely critical thinking, rather than the assembly line of a factory, which replicates products immutable. Our thinking has been controlled by the Internet, public opinion and media, which is a terrible thing. We live in an age where it’s hard to be our own independent personalities. Most of us are replicas. Just like in the Russia-Ukraine war, most people stand on the commanding heights of public opinion and morality and blindly criticize Russia’s actions. However, they don’t know why! They do not know the cause and effect, and they do not stand in a relatively balanced position to see the problem. They also don’t understand the history and don’t see things from a political perspective. Most of them follow the media. Even more frightening is that in such an environment, we cannot distinguish the truth. To quote a political saying: The masses are stupid.
My Aha moment is also the definition of critical thinking and the part of critical digital pedagogy asks more questions in the article. Before that, I had always thought that digital pedagogy was simply putting traditional education online. However, I find that digital education pays more attention to experience and learning style than traditional education. Sometimes it may be easier to express ourselves online.
About Luddism, I have a slightly different view. I think for certain areas especially a manual technique, language and so on. The traditional way has advantages. These fields are more interactive and realistic, and the technology is not so advanced yet. Besides, it’s my personal opinion that I hate digital currencies like Bitcoin and Dogecoin. I think the offline industry is the fundamental foundation.
I hope that in my future study, I can understand a little bit about the principles and process of collecting data on the Internet, because the current big data and cloud computing are too powerful, and sometimes even cross the border.
